Inspired Women on International Women’s Day
As a womenswear brand, we take International Women’s Day seriously. It’s a day to be celebrated. This year, we asked ourselves who we draw inspiration from, who stands out, who we aspire to. The result? A collection of empowering stories of committed, bold, compassionate women who we literally want to shout about from the rooftops! Here they are…
Yulia Navalnaya, Russian Public Figure & Economist -
Tasked with sharing an inspirational woman is hard simply because there are so many to choose from. How wonderful is that? After far too much deliberation I have decided that my inspiration is Yulia Navalnaya - a woman who has shown such incredible commitment and courage. Her husband's death has simply fueled her ambition to create a better place for the Russian people. In a recent interview, she shared her desire to become president of Russia. Some would choose to walk away, but she is standing up - taller than before. Instrumental in finishing her husband's soon to be launched memoir, Patriot, I've just ordered my copy and can't wait to get my hands on it. I just hope I don't find novichok in my morning coffee tomorrow…Kate
Glennon Doyle, Author and Activist - The Times
I discovered Glennon Doyle through her fabulous book Untamed. It's a brilliantly inspiring self awareness guide of sorts. I'm currently reading it again for the second time and let's just say it will never be heading to the charity shop. It's a keeper; a flick open at any page, read a bit, smile and think 'yep, I need to remember that', kind of book. If you haven't experienced the joys of Glennon Doyle, now's the time. Lizzy
Philippa Gogerty, Entrepreneur & High Sheriff of West Sussex
Philippa Gogerty is my friend who I greatly admire for all that she contributes to my local community and what she has achieved as a working mum over the years. She is currently the High Sheriff of West Sussex and Co-founder of Micro Scooters, which launched the original three-wheeled scooter for children in 2004. More recently, Philippa has been volunteering with migrants in northern France and she and her family gave refuge to a young Eritrean in 2018. She is a trustee of Sanctuary in Chichester and has helped organise the charity’s response to Afghans, Ukrainians and Asylum seekers. When I spend time with her I cherish her calm approach, rational sentiments and generosity to those less fortunate in the complicated and unfair world we live in. Arabella
Nadia Narain - Yoga & Breathwork Teacher, Wellbeing Author
I was first a student of yoga and breathwork teacher, Nadia Narain, in the early 2000s at Triyoga in London. Nadia really changed the way I practiced & understood yoga & has influenced my own teaching hugely. She has helped countless women through her work as a doula & pregnancy yoga instructor, brought peace & meaning through her books & built a beautiful community at Love Supreme Projects, a yoga studio which she co-founded in 2022. Nadia's honesty & service to the wellbeing of the world is awesome. Jess B
Em Clarkson, Writer, Blogger, Podcaster
Em Clarkson has been a huge inspiration to me since I was diagnosed with Hyperemesis Gravidarum at 7 weeks pregnant. She has documented her journey from start to finish, providing a raw and honest insight into the reality of this condition. Most recently, she appeared on ITV News to highlight the severity of HG, making it clear that it’s so much more than just morning sickness. She has shared the lowest points, the isolation, and the true impact it has on daily life - something that so many people struggle to understand. Her openness has not only helped raise awareness but has also made those of us going through it feel less alone. I’m so grateful for her voice and the awareness she continues to bring to this condition. For any support on Hyperemesis Gravidarum - visit Pregnancy Sickness Support - Jess
Meggan Roxanne, Writer, Poet, Digital Artist and Entrepreneur
Founder of @thegoodquote (which has 24Mn followers on Instagram no-less), best selling author, Meggan Roxanne has had an immense positive impact on mental health. Her wise words are a daily reminder to live the life we truly want for ourselves. And there’s no denying that this takes work. I particularly like her words “Returning home to ourselves is an art”. Belinda
Michelle Obama...
I don't think Michelle Obama requires any sort of introduction and she is certainly an inspiration to many - smart, composed, compassionate, gracious, stylish and the list could go on. She is a person that you truly want to listen to when she speaks as you feel she always has something valuable to say. I truly hope she will one day decide to run for presidency (or maybe she's far too intelligent for that!) and finally break that glass ceiling! Alex
Baroness Hale, Former President of the Supreme Court
Baroness Hale is a true trailblazer—fiercely intelligent, refreshingly down-to-earth, and never afraid to speak her mind. As the first woman to lead the UK Supreme Court, she’s spent her career championing fairness and equality, all while bringing a touch of personality (and the occasional iconic brooch) to the courtroom. She’s a powerhouse of wisdom and wit, proving that knowledge and integrity can go hand in hand, and her impact will be felt for generations. If you haven’t yet delved into her speeches or her book Spider Woman: A Life, now’s the perfect time to be inspired by her brilliance. Tamsyn
